Station Architecture: Photos of the Day

Some of the beautiful and interesting station architectures in Japan.  Some of the stations are arechitecturally significant and it is interesting to visit them.

1. Tokyo Station
Tokyo Station

This station was renovated to reconstruct its original structure last year.  The station will celebrate the centennial anniversary in December 2014.  Tokyo Station became the sister station of Grand Central Terminal in New York because GCT became 100 years old in February 2013.

This is the original structure of Tokyo Station - the photo was taken when the Tokyo Station Hotel opened in 1915.  This hotel was also renovated last year.

2. Kyoto Station
Kyoto Station is the second oldest railway station in Japan.  (The oldest ones are Shimbashi and Yokohama.)  It was reconstructed several times and the last renovation was completed in 1997 when the Kyoto City celebrated 1200th anniversary.
Its futuristic image of the station provoked some disputes in the ancient city but now I think this station is one of the city's iconic architecture.

According to Wikipedia, this is the original Kyoto Station.

3. Yuya Onsen Station
I put this photo because this is one of the typical old Japanese stations.  Stations in Japan used to be like this but unfortunately not so many still exist today.

4. Mimasaka Sendai Station
One more wooden structure station.
